the case of the shrinking chocolait | April 20, 2009

I’m not a milk fan so, to force calcium into my system, my parents stocked up on Magnolia Chocolait.  Since then, Magnolia Chocolait became my comfort/bed time drink.

Through the years, Magnolia Chocolait went through a lot of costume changes, este, package designs pala.  I still remember (and now miss) the glass bottled Chocolait that the milkman delivers to our door every Saturday.  Compared to the tetra packed Chocolait , the glass bottled Chocolait definitely tastes way better.

A few hours ago I went grocery shopping and was surprised by what I saw in the milk aisle.

Dyaraaan!  Introducing, the “One Sip Magnolia Chocolait”.

WTF?!?  Sinong may pakana nito?  Aba eh kahit bagong panganak  na sanggol mabibitin dito.

A few grocery ailes later, I stumbled upon these.

Uso?  Apparently, hindi lang Magnolia ang nagka-cater sa mga dwende, Selecta shrank their Moo din pala.

  1. one-sip? What the eych!!? Di naman nila dinoble ang price, no?
I remember the bottled chocolait! And because poor lang kme, tinitipid ko isang bote nun. Hanggang 2-3 days/bottle siguro. Treat eh. Di gaya mo, delivered regularly by the milkman pa! Dang! The only time I think me’ nadeliver na fresh milk sa bahay namin was gatas ng kalabaw ng Amang (lolo) ko. Blech! Hehehe. Batang Alaska, Nido at Anchor lang ako. eh. …

  2. that’s because sobrang payatot ko, konti lang kinakain kong food, kaya yun, spoiled ako sa Chocolait. meron din kami gatas ng kalabaw kaya lang hindi ko sha gusto, hindi ko nga maintindihan kung bakit addict dun yung buong pamilya ko eh. they even pour the kalabaw milk sa kanin. you’re right, blech! talaga. hehehe.

  3. Masamang epekto lang ng pinoy style of marketing products: if you can’t increase prices, decrease the size. Naabutan ko pa noon were the 250 and 200 ml brick sizes ng Magnolia milks (fresh, full cream, melon, strawberry, chocolait) when I was in kindergarten… no way in hell those one-sip packs gonna be enough, man.

  10. i love this blog! i stumbled upon it when i was searching this divine product online! Since i got here in the U.S., i’ve scrounged around the entire world wide web looking for an online store that sells Magnolia Chocolait! like you, the admin, masyado akong payatot at picky pa sa pagkain, and Magnolia, along with my all time favorite cracker “Happy House” was my meryenda of choice, everyday (haha!). Miss ko na rin yung Magnolia in a bottle! Definitely mas masarap ang lasa because it’s fresh and not much preservatives are added like the one’s the came in pouches! I’m 21 years of age and the last time i was in the Philippines was about 4 years ago, to my disappointment, the “wanna be” brand Moo was the closest thing i could find. Sabi ko pa naman right when i got off the plane, “Bibili ako ng isang kahong Magnolia!” too bad i was only haluscinating. Ang hirap ng maghanap nito kahit sa Pinas, and whatever happen to “Tortillios”? why is it that the better brands of snacks that i use to love, and still love when i was back home, yun pa ang mga nawawala at mahirap hanapin, hmm! kaasar lang talaga!

Btw, does anyone know an online food store that sells Magnolia? (for U.S. residents). It would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

  11. Shrinking Magnolia… should we blame it to the shrinking economy of the Philippines?!

  12. @Glady, thanks. I’m glad people still read my blog although it’s been a while since I’ve updated it. Re Magnolia US store, I’ll ask around. I think Tortillos is still available.
